Cognac is a brandy named in a French city “Cognac“. It is made by using special wine grapes called Trebbiano and manufactured in special areas after getting government permission. Cognac is produced by twice distilling white wine and aged at least 2 years or more.
There are different grades of Cognac given according to the quality.
- V.S (Very special). It’s a 3-star in which the brandy is aged for 2 years.
- V.S.O.P (Very Superior Old Pale). In this quality level, the brandy is aged for at least 4 years.
- Napoleon: In which the brandy is aged for at least 6 years.
- XO ( Extra Old). In extra old quality, the brandy is aged at least 10 years. It was aged about 6 years but now it’s increased to 10 years.
- Hors d’âge (Beyond Age). It’s age time is equal to OX but manufacturers use this term to market a high-quality product beyond the official age scale.
There are about 200 Cognac producers are there. Out of 200, 4 producers are leading the market by producing about 90% of the total Cognac.

1. Vieux Carre
Ingredients:
- 3/4 ounce rye whiskey
- 3/4 ounce Cognac
- 3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
- 1/2 ounce Benedictine Liqueur
- 1-2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
- 4 dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters
- Garnish: Cherry or lemon peel
Method:
- Add all the ingredients a jug.
- Add Ice cubes, mix well until chilled.
- Pour in glass and garnish with cherry or orange peel.
- Serve and enjoy.
2. French 75
Ingredients:
- 1 to 2 ounces gin (or Cognac; to taste)
- 1 teaspoon simple syrup
- 1/2 ounce lemon juice (fresh)
- 4 ounces Champagne
- Lemon peel, To garnish
Method:
- Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously for 20 seconds.
- Half fill the Champagne flutes with crushed ice and pour the drink into it.
- Garnish with a twisted lemon peel and serve.
3. Japanese Cocktail
Ingredients:
- 2 ounces Cognac
- 1/2 ounce orgeat syrup
- 1/2 ounce lime juice (fresh)
- 1 dash of Angostura bitters
- Garnish: Lime peel
Method:
- Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
- Add ice cubes and shake for about 20 seconds.
- Half fill the cocktail glass with crushed ice. Pour the liquid.

4. Sidecar
Ingredients:
- 2 ounces Cognac
- 1 ounce Cointreau orange liqueur
- 3/4 ounce Lemon juice
- Garnish: Lemon twist
- Ice: To chill

Ingredients:
- 1-ounce rye whiskey
- 1-ounce cognac
- 1 teaspoon curaçao (orange)
- 1 teaspoon simple syrup
- 1 dash absinthe
- 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
- 1 to 2 ounces club soda
- Garnish: Lemon twist
Method:
- Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker.
- Add ice cubes and shake for about 20 seconds.
- Half fill the cocktail glass with crushed ice.
- Pour the cocktail into the glass and top with club soda.
- Garnish with a twisted lemon peel and enjoy.
6. Champagne Bowler
Ingredients:
- 3 Fresh strawberries (Sliced)
- 1/2 ounce simple syrup
- 1/2 ounce Cognac
- 1-ounce white wine
- 4 ounces sparkling wine (or enough to fill)
- Garnish: fresh strawberries
Method:
- Add simple syrup and fresh strawberries in a cocktail shaker and mash well with muddle.
- Add Cognac and white wine. Fill with ice cubes up to half of the shaker.
- Shake well.
- Pour the drink in the cocktail glass. Top with the sparkling wine and garnish with a fresh strawberry.
- Enjoy.
7. French Connection
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 ounces cognac
- 3/4 ounce amaretto liqueur
Method:
- Combine the ingredients into an ice filled old fashioned glass.
- Stir gently and serve.
8. The Beautiful Cocktail
Ingredients:
- 1 ounce Cognac
- 1 ounce Grand Marnier
Method:
- Combine the ingredients.
- Layer in a brandy snifter or cordial glasses.

9.Dulce de Tequila
Ingredients:
- 2 ounces tequila
- 1-ounce cognac
- 1-ounce orange liqueur (Cointreau)
- 1/2 ounce lime juice
- 1 tablespoon agave nectar
- Garnish: sugar (for rim)
- Garnish: lemon wedge
Method:
- Moisten the glass rim with a lemon wedge, then dip the rim of the glass in a shallow dish with granulated sugar.
- Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Shake well.
- Pour into the prepared glass and garnish with a lemon wedge.
- Serve and enjoy.
10. Jack-O-Lantern
Ingredients:
- 1 1/2 ounces cognac (Hennessy VSOP Cognac)
- 1/2 ounce orange liqueur (Grand Marnier)
- 1-ounce orange juice
- 1 cup ice
- 2 ounces ginger ale (to fill)
- Garnish: orange wheel , lemon twist
Method:
- Add the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. Add half cup ice. Shake well.
- Pour into an old fashioned glass filled with ice.
- Top with ginger ale.
- Place an orange wheel on the top toped with a lemon twist.
- Serve and enjoy.
