Cognac is a brandy named in a French city “Cognac“. It is made by using special wine grapes called Trebbiano and manufactured in special areas after getting government permission. Cognac is produced by twice distilling white wine and aged at least 2 years or more.

There are different grades of Cognac given according to the quality. 

  1. V.S (Very special). It’s a 3-star in which the brandy is aged for 2 years.
  2. V.S.O.P (Very Superior Old Pale). In this quality level, the brandy is aged for at least 4 years. 
  3. Napoleon: In which the brandy is aged for at least 6 years.
  4. XO ( Extra Old). In extra old quality, the brandy is aged at least 10 years. It was aged about 6 years but now it’s increased to 10 years. 
  5. Hors d’âge (Beyond Age). It’s age time is equal to OX but manufacturers use this term to market a high-quality product beyond the official age scale.

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 ounce rye whiskey
  • 3/4 ounce Cognac
  • 3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 1/2 ounce Benedictine Liqueur
  • 1-2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
  • 4 dashes Angostura Aromatic Bitters
  • Garnish: Cherry or lemon peel

Method:

  1. Add all the ingredients a jug.
  2. Add Ice cubes, mix well until chilled.
  3. Pour in glass and garnish with cherry or orange peel.
  4. Serve and enjoy.

  • 1 to 2 ounces gin (or Cognac; to taste)

  • 1/2 ounce orgeat syrup
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice (fresh)

  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 1/2 ounce Cognac
  • 1-ounce white wine
  • 4 ounces sparkling wine (or enough to fill)

Method:

  1. Add simple syrup and fresh strawberries in a cocktail shaker and mash well with muddle.
  2. Add Cognac and white wine. Fill with ice cubes up to half of the shaker.
  3. Shake well.
