Instructions for making Amish Meatloaf

  1. Mix together ground beef, crushed crackers, onion, eggs, 3/4 cup ketchup, and 1/4 cup brown sugar throughly together in a large bowl and pack into a loaf pan.
  2. Next put 2 strips of bacon on top and bake for an hour at 350F degrees.
  3. After the hour is up, pour and smooth the sauce onto the meatloaf and cook another 15 to 20 minutes. I have sometimes added 1/2 teaspoon of garlic salt instead of the salt to the sauce mixture and that is also delicious!

How do you keep Meatloaf moist?

Stale bread is an essential ingredient in meatloaf, as it binds the meat together. But blending in dry bread will take away some of the moisture from the meat. For a more moist meatloaf, soak the bread in milk until it becomes thick and mushy before blending the mixture together.

How long does it take to cook meatloaf at 375 degrees?

In a 350 degree preheated oven it will take around 40-50 minutes to cook meatloaf at 375 degrees.

Should you cover meatloaf with foil when baking?

Yes. Cover the large meatloaf with aluminium foil while baking to keep it moist. But remove the foil during the last 15 minutes.
