  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.

  5. Beat the egg in a small bowl and mix 1/2 a cup milk into it and whisk vigorously. Then add it to the milk mixture. “Tempering” prevents the curdling of the egg by slowly increasing the temperature.
  6. Stir in the cheese, 1 teaspoon salt, and the pepper. Fold in the macaroni then move to a 4-quart casserole or soufflé dish.
  7. Sprinkle breadcrumbs with melted butter and the balance cheese over the top. Bake for 30 minutes. Allow it to cool for 10 minutes and serve.
